The Central University of Kerala (CUK) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic fervour at its Periye Campus. The celebrations featured a series of programmes showcasing the spirit of freedom, unity, and national pride. Vice Chancellor Prof. Siddu P. Algur hoisted the National Flag in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan and delivered an inspiring Independence Day address.
In his address, Prof. Algur reminded the gathering that the freedom the nation enjoys today is the hard-earned result of countless sacrifices. He emphasised that independence will be complete only when equality, dignity, and equal opportunities are ensured for all. He urged the younger generation to commit themselves to eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education, fostering social harmony, and protecting the environment.
Prof. Algur further emphasised that freedom is not a licence for unrestrained action, but a responsibility to uphold peace, respect the rights of others, and work for the common good. He called upon the youth to channel their energy towards unity, mutual respect, and social progress, applying their knowledge with courage, empathy, creativity, and a vision for the nation’s future.
The event was attended by Registrar (i/c) Dr. R. Jayaprakash, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Rajendra Pilankatta, deans of various schools, heads of departments, faculty members, students, and staff. As part of the occasion, the Vice Chancellor distributed certificates recognising various achievements. Cultural performances, a yoga demonstration, and a colourful parade of students in traditional attire representing different States of India added vibrancy to the celebrations, reflecting the country’s cherished unity in diversity.
